Dr. Anantha MS

Dr. Anantha M S, Senior scientist, ICAR Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad has expertise in molecular breeding of rice for Low Phosphorous tolerance, Direct seeded rice, biofortification and drought tolerance. He has developed first low phosphorus tolerant rice variety DRR Dhan 60 in India which is popular in farmer’s field. In addition, has also developed DRR Dhan 78 (Low Phosphorus tolerant rice), DRR dhan 80 (MAS Variety for BLB). Other rice varieties developed by him are DRR Dhan 65, DRR Dhan 66, DRR Dhan 72 for Low P tolerant, DRR Dhan 55, DRR Dhan 56, DRR Dhan 57, DRR Dhan 64 for aerobic condition, DRR Dhan 58 for salinity tolerant), spoorti (High Zinc) and also associated in development of other 22 rice varieties. He has registered 9 genetics stocks in NBPGR. Further he has mapped loci confirming low Phosphorous tolerance in Rasi and Wazuhophek. He is involved in genomic selection for Low Phosphorous tolerance in rice. He has identified landraces and Oryza glaberrima accessions possessing high weed competitiveness and early seedling vigour. He has undertaken GWAS of early seeding vigour under aerobic condition, Mapping QTL hotspot regions for early seedling vigour, weed competitive traits. Marker assisted transfer of pup 1 QTL into popular varieties. Developed AB-NAM population derived from IR64/O. glaberrima. He has identified novel QTLs for Low Phosphorus tolerance. He is having research articles in 33 international and 11 national journals of high reputation. He has also published 5 books and 22 book chapters.
