Dr. G. Guru Pirasanna Pandi has significantly contributed for the development of IPM strategies
against key insect pests of rice. Dr. Pandi also involved in the identification of brown
planthopper-resistant germplasms and associated in the development of stress-tolerant rice
varieties viz., CR Dhan 317 (BPH-resistant), CR Dhan 805 (BPH-resistant), CR Dhan 809 (BPH-
resistant), CR Dhan 807 (Herbicide ZTolerant) and CR Dhan-102 (drought tolerant) and one high
yielding rice variety CR Dhan-321. He has credited the two complete mitochondrial genome
sequences (rice gundhi bug and brown planthopper biotype-4) first time in the world and also
developed >500 DNA barcode and unique mitochondrial haplotype sequence of different rice
insect pests. Dr. Pandi has published 75 peer-reviewed publications in international Journal of
high impact factor, 30 in national (Indian) peer-reviewed journals, 3 books, 20 book chapters
and several technical bulletins. He was the recipient of NASI Membership, ESI Young
Entomologist Award and Prof. TN Ananthakrishnan Young Scientist Award. Dr. Pandi currently
works at the Crop Protection Division, Central Rice Research Institute. His area of interest are
host plant resistance and molecular entomology.
